What Is the Hotel Lobby Trend? The Orange Booth Rap Clip, Explained
Two people at a hanging mic in a bright orange room, rapping in sync. Sometimes they are cats. Sometimes they are a married couple, two football players or two movie characters. If you have been on TikTok since September 2026, you have seen it.
That is the Hotel Lobby trend.
Where the clip comes from
The original is a 2022 performance of the song “Hotel Lobby (Unc & Phew)” by Quavo and Takeoff on A COLORS SHOW. COLORS is a Germany-based music series known for simple, one-color studio sets.
COLORS posted the performance on YouTube on June 17, 2022. On October 26, 2026, it showed 135,315,981 views.

How it became an AI trend
According to Complex, the AI version started gaining traction in early September 2026, after videos of two cats recreating the performance went viral. From there it spread on TikTok. People swapped in the Obamas, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, and football players Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.
The trend reached the artists too. Complex reports that on September 23, Quavo reposted the original performance on his social accounts. On October 1, he and Victoria Monét made their own version, and Revolt notes they did it without AI.
Why this clip works so well
This part is our own view, from making templates out of it:
- You know it in one frame. One color, one mic, two people. Whoever is swapped in, it still reads as Hotel Lobby.
- It is a duo. You need a second person, so people make it with a partner, a best friend or a sibling, and then tag them.
- The set is empty. Nothing else on screen competes with the two faces, so the swap is the whole joke.
- It is short. The best part fits in about 13 seconds, which is the length people actually watch.
